Live programming is an emerging topic that so far lacks a an agreed upon definition. Is it just about editing code while it is running, or with live feedback about edits, or is there more to it? To muddy the waters, there are also live coders who expose and rewire the innards of software while it generates improvised music and/or visuals, creating new artistic live experiences. Although a lot of work exists in these topics, it is often difficult to discern their similarities as well as transfer ideas between them given differing goals, seminal influences, and vocabulary. How can we close these gaps to create a more cohesive community around live programming, live coding, and perhaps even Engelbart-style intelligence amplification?
